Carolyn Shulman Sees Stars on New Release
The soft and engaging voice of Carolyn Shulman honors our ears in her latest single and video “Double Stars,” off of her soon to be released album “Grenadine & Kerosine.” Born and raised in a small town in Alabama, folk singer-songwriter first picked up a guitar at 9 years old, and with help from her musician father found her passion for song. After going to law school and having a family, Carolyn finally decided to pursue her musical dream when her family moved to Denver in 2014, and we’re definitely grateful for that decision.
“Double Stars” compares a relationship to the binary star system. A unique perspective on love, showcasing the destiny of soulmates and support from a loved one. She speaks of paralells, gravity supporting one another and keeping a relationship together, and orbiting with one another. In her music video, she showcases time lapses of the night sky, along with shots of nature which fits flawlessly with not only the meaning of this song, but the instrumentals as well.
Carolyn shares:
“'Double Stars' is a sweet, folky love song that uses a binary star system as a relationship metaphor. I loved the imagery of these two giant stars orbiting each other, sharing light, space, and gravity, and I saw many ways in which that phenomenon could represent the give and take, as well as the challenges of a long-term relationship.”
This concept is perfectly accompanied by melodic fingerpicking on Shulmans guitar. A beautiful folk tune, slide guitars and mandolin add depth to the instrumental, and the light drums keep the grove moving in an enticing way. Layering harmony through the piece adds so much fullness to the piece, building into a peaceful ending. I couldn’t think of anything that could make this song more perfect, each element beautifully intertwined with the other.
“Double Stars,” is available on streaming platforms now! A magnificent relaxing track, and incredible debut before releasing “Grenadine & Kerosine,” keep streaming “Double Stars,” and keep an eye out for Shulman’s first studio album releasing this May!
