Courtney Cotter King Reminds Us That Family is Why She’s a Fine Breed
Singer/Songwriter Courtney Cotter King has loved music since she was young. At the age of 3, she started writing the instrumental parts of songs and has since been mastering the piano. Once a piano teacher, she quit to pursue her dreams of writing her own music. As a woman with strong family values, her music focus’s on her devotion and love for her family, both the one she was given and the one she’s building. She hopes to inspire moms that creativity doesn’t have to stop when kids are created. She humorously balances gigging with nursing and finger painting with songwriting. “Marriage and motherhood has opened me to songs I could have never written without these sweet souls in my life,” says Courtney.
Her newest song, “Fine Breed” was released on September 3rd from her upcoming album Brood. It has a 60’s jazz and pop vibe with sounds of Carole King and Stevie Wonder. It’s very upbeat with a melody that allows you to dance and a soulful voice that reminds you of the past. It’s about being the baby in her family of 6 kids and how her childhood was full of happy memories. “I stayed up late and followed my siblings around,” she remembers. “My parents seemed to somehow give us individual time and help us individually. My mom and dad have always supported my music and when I put out my Kickstarter my brothers and sisters were the first people to back and were all excited for me. I wanted to write my family a song because they have played a huge part in my upbringing and who I am today. We are a family that loves to be together and want to be together. I find it unique and cool. So this song is about my childhood family.”
It’s a wholesome song that’s important to Courtney. She brings us back to the good times she had and gives us a glimpse of how happy she was. She’s showing us what family means to her, that it was imparted on her from a young age that family was her everything. She says “I want to convey a message that people do have happy childhoods in a big family and aren't always lost in the mix you know?”
