George Collins’ Latest Single is Catchy and Genuine

George Collins is the 59 year old music industry veteran who’s making waves in the indie pop-rock space. He’s getting set to release his debut solo EP, It’s Been a Long Time, under the name George Collins Band, that bleeds with catchy hooks, infectious tunes, and utterly perfect lyricism. “I don’t want to go to my grave with my stories and songs still inside me,” he says. “I can always make more money, but I can never make more time.”

George’s latest single from the EP is the title track, “It’s Been a Long.” It has a Beatles meets Dire Straits with a slight hint of John Mayer. It’s a pop rock song with simple, yet incredibly emotive lyrics. The instruments dance with each other and the lyrics, almost bringing in some jazz aspects to his music.

“It’s Been a Long Time” is about a relationship that doesn’t pan out, it’s quite unexpected and it happens when you don’t see it coming. It’s the kind of end that really sticks with you because you thought you had something. He sings “It’s been a long time since I’m walking by your window/It’s been a long time since I’m knocking on your door/Many days and sleepless nights have passed/The memories fade both too slow and fast/Since I found out you don’t want me anymore.” The way George crafts the song is about the listener’s point of view. Leaving the definite meaning vague leaves room for the listener to be creative in their own right. It’s genius songwriting that George has a grasp of.

George is proving that it’s never too late to do what you love. Since wrapping up his financial career, he’s been more creatively active than ever with two novels and a screenplay under his belt. He continues penning short stories, poems, and songs. At almost 60 years of age, Collins is just getting started. He says: “People I know from the business world always ask me, ‘Don’t you get bored?’ Truth is, I’ve never been busier. I have two little girls who mean everything to me, and I feel so fulfilled and passionate about pursuing my creative endeavors. I have so much I want to share, and that is what drives me every single day.”
