Marla Lewis: From Classroom to Recording Studio, a Journey of Love with “Te Quiero a Ti”

Marla Lewis, a New Jersey-born artist, has worn many hats throughout her remarkable career.

Known as a singer, songwriter, and dedicated educator, Marla's latest single “Te Quiero a Ti” stands out for its creativity and simplicity, as well as showing the deep love that drives her creative journey.

This enchanting track, offered in both Spanish and English versions, has sophisticated musical arrangements and impeccable vocals from Marla that come together to create a real warmth and romance.

For 25 years, Marla was as an elementary school teacher, a role that profoundly influenced her approach to music.

Her passion for educating children extended beyond the classroom, inspiring her to write songs that are both educational and entertaining. This dedication is evident in some of her award-winning albums “I Love to Talk to Plants” (2009) and “We All Laugh in the Same Language” (2007), which have earned accolades such as the Parent’s Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold.

Marla’s experience as a teacher has enriched her songwriting with a unique perspective, focusing on messages of kindness, understanding, and love - values she imparted to her students. Her song “Leap of Faith,” co-written with Nancy Schimmel, was featured on the Grammy-winning children’s album “All About Bullies … Big and Small” in 2011.

Marla’s role in parenting and raising seven of her late sister’s children has also played a significant part in shaping her music.

Balancing her responsibilities at home and in her career, she has always strived to create a nurturing environment for her children, filled with creativity and expression.

“Te Quiero a Ti” stands out as a beautiful example of Marla’s ability to bring personal experiences into her music. Originally written as a beautiful tune without lyrics, Marla turned to her friend Dave Kinnoin to provide the words.

The song was first recorded on her “Songbook” album, but Marla had always envisioned it in Spanish. This dream came to fruition when she met Melissa Sanley through a Grammy organization’s Peer Networking program. Melissa, a superb singer, songwriter, and voice teacher, translated the lyrics, coached Marla on every line, even contributing to the cover art and backing vocals.
