Steven H. Scott Reveals His Stunning New EP “Albino Road”
Steven H. Scott is one of those artists that grabs you by his talent and gifted musical ability. His lyrics are poetic and deeply personal while his music is nothing less than soulful. You can hear the power music has over him in every one of his songs. He says “nothing is without a purpose” when it comes to writing music and when you listen to his new EP, Albino Road, it becomes clear that he wants his music to mean something more.
The first track, “Anywhere but Here,” is a passionate piece of music that embodies his own battles with fear and anxiety. With a hint of Johnny Cash, he sings “These sounds and creaks I can’t explain, and they stay inside my head, tucked away, slowly tearing me apart,” perfectly describing what it feels like to suffer from crippling anxiety. It’s relatable and sensitive, but tells us that the life we live is no one else's but our own. We have the power to change our lives and overcome our fears and anxieties, we don’t have to let them run our lives.
Similarly, the title track, “Albino Road” is just as meaningful. He calls for change in not only ourselves and our own thinking, but in others and society as a whole. It’s a cry for acceptance and peace within the world we live in. Based on a true story, he sings “They don’t look like you or me, let the truth be told on that old albino road, we sacrifice for normalcy.” His soul-filled voice leads us through this tragic story of two boys who were hung because they looked different than everyone else. It’s a call for an awakening, that we don’t have to keep repeating history, but we do.
The second track and last track, “Spaceman (John’s Song)” and “Sunshine On Me,” are a bit of a pivot from “Anywhere but Here” and “Albino Road,” musically speaking. With more of a Jason Mraz and Doughtry blend and folk music vibes, these songs are just as elevated in meaning. “Spaceman (John’s Song)” discusses death and the feelings Steven has for his friend. He sings “How do we make a mark on this world when we’re all just passing through.” He’s trying to figure out what life means and what we leave behind when we’re gone. As the listener, we are right there with him.
His last track, “Sunshine On Me,” is arguably the EP’s most necessary song. It’s about how we all interact with each other as people, how we should be better towards each other and stop being so selfish. He sings “We are obsessed with the blaming game, pointing the finger at anyone’s name. You gotta take a look within yourself, learn to let it go and redefine your wealth.” He doesn’t hold any punches, which is what makes this song so powerful. He demands that we all just take a step back and realize we are all in this together, that at some point you need to take responsibility for your actions.
It’s no question that Steven Scott is talented. Albino Road is just the latest example of what he can do. We hope to see more from him. His EP is out now and can be found on spotify.
