The Parenting Playlist: Songs For Parents Who Just Want to Take a Break from Parenting

This week’s list is full of songs for parents who just want to take a break from parenting for a second and dive into a world where they can just take a breath. Fair warning, most of these songs are older and may cause nostalgia for some listeners.

  1. Alanis Morrisette - “Ironic”

A song that always has me belting when the chorus kicks in.

2. King Princess - “Cheap Queen”

This song makes me feel youthful again, at least more youthful than I am. I listen to this song and always feel like I’m in another place. It’s also quite relatable.

3. AC/DC - “Highway to Hell”

This song is upbeat from the start. It’s always a good song to get your frustrations out to; it releases inner catharsis.

4. Bon Jovi - “You Give Love a Bad Name”

Bon Jovi always puts me in a good mood. “You Give Love a Bad Name” is anthem-like and gets your blood pumping. You can’t help but dance and not think about your worries.

5. N’SYNC - “Bye Bye Bye”

This one is a little out there, but you have to sing along when you hear it. It’s a reminder of simpler times.

6. Queen - “Another One Bites the Dust”

A classic song that hits every mark you want in a song. It’s catchy, singable, and danceable.

7. Brittany and the Blisstones - “Mermaid”

There’s nothing quite like an island inspired pop song that gets you grooving. This song is absolutely hypnotic and puts you on a tropical island somewhere, where all your worries disappear.

8. George Collins Band - “It’s Been a Long Time”

This song from the pop-rock sensation George Collins Band really sticks with you. I find that I sing it without realizing it. It gets you dancing and singing along.

9. Phoebe Bridgers - “Chinese Satellite”

You can never go wrong with Phoebe Bridgers. She makes you laugh and she makes you cry. I listen to “Chinese Satellite” whenever I’m feeling like I need a cry.

10. ABBA - “Waterloo”

Honestly, I could put any ABBA song on this list, but “Waterloo” is a classic upbeat song that never fails to get me out of a funk. I always feel like a better person when I listen to this song
