Brittany and the Blisstones’ Music is Pure Heart and Magic

If you’re looking for fulfilling music that’s full of heart, empowerment, and healing, then Brittany and the Blisstones is the duo for you. Brittany Bliss and Reid Givens’ story is like one from a movie. They met at an open mic night in Chico, CA one fateful night. Reid was a staple at this particular mic night, while Brittany was getting ready to make her solo and musical debut. She’s been singing since she was three, she dabbled with choir in high school, and performed with the Oakland Symphony Chorus as an adult. However, she never invested in her natural gifts, burying her desires beneath domestic responsibilities in her previous marriage. Reid on the other hand, had been playing drums since he was 9 and proven he was a promising musician with expansive abilities. During his time as an active musician, Reid played punk, adult contemporary, pop, metal, and prog rock. He even once opened for the Dave Matthews Band. But at just 18 he got married, and soon was raising a son with another on the way, and taking care of his ailing mother in law. These responsibilities took over his life, cutting a promising career as a drummer short.

However, at that open mic night, Brittany sang her heart out and caught Reid’s attention. He found himself captivated and introduced himself to her after she left the stage. While the two spoke briefly that night, they felt an instant connection. Two weeks later, they saw each other again but this time they talked for longer, and the couple have been inseparable ever since. Now, they are not only married with a blended family, but they are now the musical duo known as Brittany and the Blisstones.

They’ve been working on their debut EP, La La Love, to be released later this year, and just released their first single from that EP called “Mermaid.” This island pop song utilizes trumpets and the ukulele, which Brittany taught herself how to play, over a hypnotizing Jamaican influenced beat. Brittany’s vocals are very much like Sia, while the music is almost a more subtle Madonna pop style. This was the first song that Brittany ever wrote, dating back to 2018. She’s always had a connection with the ocean. Whenever Brittany is near the ocean, a feeling of calm and stillness comes over her that provides enough space to allow awaiting wisdom to blossom. A great deal of personal growth has happened for Brittany when she is close to the waves. “Mermaid” is about connecting with nature, and finding the wisdom that awaits us. It’s also about the importance and responsibility of continuing to nurture one’s own growth. It’s not just given although the Universe will never stop providing inspiration for growth.

One of the biggest lessons of Brittany and The Blisstones is it’s never too late. It’s never too late to pick up an instrument. “Brittany just had her first piano recital since the second grade,” Reid marvels. And it’s never too late for love. Brittany says: “We got another chance at love, and rediscovering who we really are as people. It’s been such a beautiful restart.”
