Kris “Halo” Pierce Releases a Series of Singles From His Upcoming Album

Kris “Halo” Pierce is a multi-award winning producer, songwriter, and DJ who has been in the electronic music game for years. He got his nickname “Halo” in 1997 when he and a friend started a darkwave band called Mind Static. In the four years Mind Static was together, the group landed a couple record deals and a movie placement and performed on TV. In 2000, Kris began writing electronic music under the moniker, Haunted Echo. Since then, he’s issued 13 Haunted Echo releases through Cleopatra Records, Interscope Records, and via his boutique imprint, Halo Askew Entertainment. Outside of his songwriting and producing music, Kris is also an audio tech and engineer, working major events in New York City.

Whether you’ve heard of Kris through his genre bending avant-pop music or know him through his technical work, you know that he doesn’t do anything halfway. When he does a project he puts all his creative energy into. That’s especially evident in his latest project, his next album Artificial Breed. Over the past couple of weeks he has been releasing a new single from this album, an ambitious feat for any artist but not for Kris.

He started with the synthetic pop and darkwave song “Blue Flower” which was cowritten by Jason Bazinet and Tijen Najarian, who also provided her vocals. It’s catchy, airy, and danceable. The song speaks on self-sabotaging yourself when it comes to romance.

“AndOr” is the chillwave and trip hop song that speaks on cognitive dissonance by using electronic sounds and breaks layered with synth melodies.

“Outside of Time” is the darkwave and synthpop song that explores time standing still when you’re stuck inside your own head. The underlying melody never changes and carries a darker yet catchy guitar. The electronic beat layered on top represents the disassociation between reality and what goes on inside.

“AntiVax” is the latest single. The song opens with a light piano-like bell sounds and builds with an electronic beat layered with synth keyboards for texture. It’s somehow both light and heavy. The underlying bell sounds create a sense a security and grounding while the beat and keyboard create a darker, more chaotic sense.

There is a perception out there that electronic artists are not necessarily musicians, that because anyone can create music from a synthesizer in their bedroom doesn’t mean you’re a real music maker. But I stand to disarm that misconception. What Kris is doing is a craft. His music is a love letter to the art form and you can hear with each one of his songs his passion, his talent, and his skill. His compositions are cohesive and outside of any specific genre. He puts you in a thoughtful yet calming state of mind.

Artificial Breed will be out soon. Be sure to give it a listen!
